Applications

Brass panels & components

Brass is used for equipment faceplates, identification plates and decorative details. We review the grade, thickness and finish with your drawing.

For cutting and marking considerations, see our brass cutting and engraving guide.

01 / IDENTIFICATION

Nameplates & labels

Equipment labels, branding plates and serial-number tags, with fixing holes and engraved text or logos.

02 / EQUIPMENT

Panels & faceplates

Instrument openings, button holes and fixing points, with panel legends positioned to match the installed components.

03 / FUNCTION

Custom components

Flat or formed parts with holes, slots and contact areas. Material grades grade and any electrical contact requirements.

04 / APPEARANCE

Decorative details

Cut-out panels, trim details and visible plates with specified brush direction, polished faces or other finishing requirements.

Specify the material

Brass grades for sheet
and machined parts

Specify the full grade, standard, temper and thickness. Material availability and any proposed substitution are confirmed with the quotation.

Material familyTypical selection reasonDetails to specify
UNS C26000 / JIS C2600Cartridge-brass designations associated with sheet and formed parts.Material standard, temper, thickness and bend radius.
JIS C2680, C2720, C2801Brass sheet and plate grades encountered in Singapore supply catalogues.Exact grade, temper, thickness and finish.
UNS C36000 / JIS C3604Free-cutting brass designations relevant to machined features and bar-stock components.Stock form, machining details and material restrictions. Not a default choice for tight sheet-metal bends.

Lead restrictions: UNS C36000 contains lead. Include any restricted-substance requirements and material declarations with your enquiry.

For folded parts, include the inside bend radius. For machined features, send a STEP model and a dimensioned drawing.

Processing

Cutting & secondary operations

The process sequence depends on the required dimensions, engraving and final finish.

01 / CUT

Profiles & openings

Cut outlines, holes and slots from brass sheet. Achievable features and tolerances depend on grade, thickness and geometry; mark critical dimensions and the required burr side on the drawing.

02 / COMPLETE

Bends & features

Formed parts are reviewed for bend radius and material condition. Threads, countersinks and close-fit holes may need drilling, tapping or machining, subject to quotation.

Bending requirements →
03 / IDENTIFY

Text & marking

Engrave text, logos and serial numbers from approved artwork. For a specified contrast or readable code, agree a sample on the actual grade and finish.

Engraving & marking →
04 / FINISH

Edges & surfaces

Deburr edges and finish the specified faces. Plating and protective coatings are subject to confirmation; the quotation identifies any specialist work.

Surface finishes

Brushed, polished
or coated brass

Mark the visible face and brush direction. For matching parts, provide a finish sample or a clear appearance specification.

Stacked brass sheet stock before fabrication
Brushed
Specify grain direction and which adjacent parts must match. Identify holes and edges where finishing must not change the geometry.
Polished
Agree gloss, visible-face quality and treatment of corners. Heavy polishing can round edges or affect fine engraved detail.
Plated or protected
State coating type, thickness where relevant, masking and final dimensions. Confirm whether marking should remain in the coating or reach the substrate.
Bare brass
Bare brass can tarnish with handling and exposure. Specify protection or a coating if colour retention is important.
Use & inspection

Indoor & outdoor use

Tell us whether the part is used indoors, outdoors or near the coast, and which cleaning agents it will encounter.

Outdoor and coastal applications need grade-specific corrosion and protection review. General-purpose brass should not be assumed suitable for seawater exposure.

For Singapore delivery, include the required date and packaging instructions. Visible faces can require individual protection.

Drawing notes

  • Front and rear faces, installed orientation and grain direction.
  • Permitted handling marks and any protected or no-clamp areas.
  • Mounting holes, countersinks, threads and close-fit dimensions.
  • Marking content, size, position and approved artwork revision.
  • Contact areas or masked regions that must remain uncoated.
  • Final inspection condition: after cutting, forming or finishing.

Agree cosmetic acceptance against a sample or stated viewing conditions. For dimensional checks, see our quality assurance approach.

Brass fabrication questions

Which brass grade should I specify for a panel?

Specify the full grade, standard and temper. Selection depends on thickness, bending and finish requirements; availability is confirmed with the quotation.

Is C360 the best choice for every brass part?

No. C36000 is a leaded free-cutting brass suited to machining, rather than a default choice for folded sheet. Include any material restrictions in the enquiry.

Can cutting and engraving be included in one order?

Yes, send the part drawing and marking layout together. A sample may be needed to confirm contrast or appearance before production.

Will polished brass remain the same colour?

Bare brass can tarnish. If colour retention matters, specify the service environment and discuss a protective finish.

Can all holes be used directly after laser cutting?

Clearance holes may be suitable as cut, but threads, countersinks and tight fits may need secondary processing. State the feature tolerance, burr requirements and function so the route can be assessed.

Are plating and specialist machining carried out in-house?

Plating and specialist machining are confirmed per project. The quotation identifies the included operations and any work arranged externally.
